Hunter River High Schools Cultural Enrichment Day

Our year 7 students attended a wonderful Cultural Enrichment Day at Murrook Cultural Centre and Stockton sand dunes on May 22-23.

Students enjoyed a variety of activities including a smoking ceremony, boomerang and spear throwing and Aboriginal dance and lunched on bush tucker. Worimi community member Uncle Rich led students on visits to significant local cultural sites, including Williamtown sand dunes.

Among the highlights of the days were a 4WD tour of Birubi Beach, sand dunes and sand boarding adventures at Stockton Beach. Staff members who were involved on the day felt the day brought the connection between the teachers and students closer having one on one bonding time will build our relationships better and stronger. Students felt as if they are now more connected to their culture than before and definitely more knowledgeable than before.
