NAIDOC Week 2019 at Tanilba Bay Public School

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Tanilba Bay Public School celebrated NAIDOC Week 2019.

In this deadly video, Dr Abigail Sawyer, proud Principal, and students share what we feel NAIDOC Day is about, and celebrate by learning different aspects of culture. We had the privilege of celebrating and learning with respected members of the community, such as Uncle John Ridgeway and Mr Johnny Shulz.

The day was full of activities, such as art and learning the meaning behind it, boomerang throwing, a smoking ceremony, and didgeridoo playing.

We learnt so much and are thankful to be able to share and celebrate the amazing history and strength behind Aboriginal peoples and cultures. Tanilba Bay Public School wants our Aboriginal students to grow up feeling a strong sense of identity, and to feel proud and appreciated as Aboriginal people.
