NAIDOC 2021 – Heal Country!

Students at Glen William Public School had a wonderful time learning all about NAIDOC.

Students choreographed and performed a dance portraying an Aboriginal Dreaming story about the Creation of the Worimi Conservation Land. They also shared where they are from, some totemic animals, and explained the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags. Using Aboriginal symbols, students each created a story and drew it onto a boomerang, before painting the other side.

Elder Nan Margaret joined in to teach the students all about message sticks, before showing them how to make their own. To finish the day’s activities, students participated in Aboriginal games organised by some of the Year 6 students.

To further commemorate NAIDOC, some of the students went to Dungog High School to participate in NAIDOC Day. Students partook in Jonny cake cooking, dancing, boomerang throwing and weaving. Thank you to Dungog High School and Murrook for hosting and organising the day.
