Yapii the Platypus Dreaming Story

As the final collaborative project for 2021, students at Glen William Public School created a book based on a Dreaming story.

Uncle Leigh visited the school during Term 4 to teach the students some Gathang language and tell them a Dreaming story. Students learnt the song ‘Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’, how to count from 1 to 10, some numbers to 1000, and some animals in Gathang. After Leigh’s visit, students each selected a different section of the Dreaming story he had told – ‘Yapii the Platypus’. They then each painted an artwork depicting that section of the story. The artworks were then collated into a book.
